The process of updating the Eurocodes is framed within the European and national standardisation context, highlighting its close integration with the Italian Technical Standards for Construction. The motivations and objectives of the European mandate M515 are outlined, together with the main phases of the revision process that led to the development of the second generation of Eurocodes. The contribution also provides an overview of the technical–regulatory pathway of the documents and of the role played by the UNI CT021 “Structural Engineering” Committee as the national interface with CEN/TC 250, thus offering the reference framework within which the contributions collected in this special issue dedicated to the update of Eurocode 8 are positioned.
Il processo di aggiornamento degli Eurocodici è inquadrato nel contesto del sistema normativo europeo e nazionale, mettendone in evidenza la stretta integrazione con le Norme Tecniche per le Costruzioni italiane. Sono richiamate le motivazioni e gli obiettivi del mandato europeo M515 e sintetizzate le principali fasi del processo di revisione che ha condotto allo sviluppo della seconda generazione degli Eurocodici. Il contributo offre inoltre un quadro dell’iter tecnico-normativo dei documenti e del ruolo svolto dalla Commissione UNI CT021 “Ingegneria Strutturale” quale interfaccia nazionale con il CEN/TC 250, fornendo il contesto di riferimento entro cui si collocano i contributi raccolti in questo numero speciale dedicato all’aggiornamento dell’Eurocodice 8.
